Training Director/Instructor

REPORTS TO:
The Board of Trustees of the Laborers-AGC Training Fund of Montana


POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Trustees for the Laborers-AGC Training Fund of Montana are seeking an individual to serve in a dual role position for Training Director and Trade Instructor.

In the role of Training Director, the individual will be responsible for performing oversight of the day-to-day operations of the training center. The ability to translate industry knowledge, and jobsite leadership and supervisory experience to the training center is required. Solid organizational skills and personnel oversight to direct others is essential. Duties include securing and maintaining organizational accreditations (e.g. Lead, Asbestos, Hazardous Waste), implementing high quality apprenticeship and training standards, and overseeing Fund resources/assets through effective facilities management, integrity and efficiency.

In the role of Instructor, the individual will provide classroom and hands-on training for Construction Craft Laborer apprentices and journey-workers by applying industry knowledge to teaching skills, supporting apprenticeship and marketing the importance of participation in training.

The Trustees recognize individuals applying for this dual role position may not possess all of the skills of both Training Director and Instructor, and will consider applicants with demonstrated skills and proven ability/willingness to learn.


MAIN DUTIES:
- Implement and uphold the vision and policies of the training center as established by the Board.
- Oversee operations, including apprenticeship and training, budget management, and strategic planning. Provide direction to support staff to ensure all training and strategic objectives are achieved.
- Implement actions that improve the training center and the quality of its services (e.g. building renovations, new guidelines for training, addition of new programs, etc.) - Oversee the allocation and utilization of resources, including finances, facilities, and training materials. Collaborate with the Board to ensure optimum resource management.
- Work with key stakeholders (e.g. local/state/federal agencies, LIUNA Training) to look for supplemental funding opportunities and grants to increase revenue. 
- Stay updated on ERISA and construction industry laws, regulations, and policies. Ensure the training center operates in compliance with these requirements and maintain accurate records and documentation.
- Create a safe and inclusive environment for trainees and staff. Address conflicts, implement disciplinary policies, and promote positive behavior management strategies.
- Prepare training schedule, review apprentice and trainee applications, and support in system development to register trainees for classes based on industry need.
- Learn about and utilize national training fund (LIUNA Training) programs, products and services to the Fund’s benefit.
- Utilize lesson plans, organize coursework and learning materials, deliver classroom and hands-on instruction, manage classroom behavior.
- Assess and track trainee performance, issue industry credentials and maintain apprenticeship and training records as appropriate.
- Build relationships with contractors, community organizations, and local authorities. Collaborate with stakeholders to create partnerships and enhance community involvement that support training center activities and contribute to a positive image of the organization.
- Communicate training center policies, initiatives, and events through various tool, such as newsletters, meetings, and social media platforms.
- Build and maintain marketing to enhance and promote a positive image of the Fund, training and apprenticeship.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum 5 years Construction Craft Laborer field experience
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a management or leadership role with supervisory responsibility
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in education, business or workforce development
- Computer literacy with ability to learn new educational technology and digital tools
- Experience with adult training and/or education highly preferred.
- Excellent writing and communication skills
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to stand for long periods of time
- Occasionally move, lift, or carry heavy objects or materials
- Demonstrate and work with tools of the trade
- Willingness to work outdoors
- Help maintain training center grounds

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- This is a full-time position based at the Helena, Montana Training Center
- The Training Director/Instructor is required to travel and work some evenings and weekends
- Successful applicants will possess a valid driver’s license and successfully pass a drug test

COMPENSATION:
- Annual Salary of $60,000 – 75,000 depending on experience
- Pension through the Laborers A.G.C. Pension Trust of Montana
- Excellent Health Insurance
